Naika Foroutan is one of the most popular and richest University Teacher who was born on December 24, 1971 in Boppard, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Foroutan, who has been director of the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research since May 2018, has also led the “Integration Research and Social Policy” department.
She has been head of the research group “Young Islam-related topics in Germany” (JUNITED) at the Humboldt-Universitat Berlin (HU) since 2011; in June 2015, she was appointed professor of “integration research and social policy” by Humboldt-Universitat. She is also secretary to the five-member board at the German Council for Migration. Since 2017, she has been the head of DeZIM, the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research.
Foroutan, in collaboration with the Mercator Foundation organized the “Young Islam Conference-Berlin 2011” at Humboldt University Berlin. Under her leadership, another “young Islam” conference was held in 2012. During the conference, it was announced that the “Young Islam Conference”, and corresponding research project “Young Islam related issues in Germany” under Foroutans would continue until 2016, with funding of two million euros from the Mercator foundation. She is the co-head of “Concepts to the development of intelligence security and prevention” (CODISP) sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Foroutan is the child of a German mother, and an Iranian father. She is the younger sister of Melika Foroutan, actress. Bahman Foroutan, her father is a coach in football. From 2010 to 2014, he was the coach of several Berlin amateur football clubs. Naika Foroutan, her family and friends, lived in Tehran for eleven years before moving to Berlin in 2013. Foroutan studied Islamic Studies, romance Philology, and political science at the University of Cologne. From 2000 to 2004, she earned a doctorate from the University of Gottingen in Bassam Tibi in inter-civilisation cultural dialogs between the West & the Islamic world. She was then appointed as a lecturer in International relations. Foroutan was a professor at the Otto-Suhr-Institut of the Freie Universitat Berlin’s Department of Politics of the Middle East from 2006 to 2009. She then moved to the Institute for Social Sciences of the Humboldt University of Berlin. She led the research project “hybrid European/Muslim identity models” (HEYMAT) from 2008 to 2013. With Isabel Schafer, The Volkswagen Foundation extended the HEYMAT project to 2013 and it was continued until 2015. Naika Foroutan, the HEYMAT Project Manager, has been leading the project since the extension. The HEYMAT project was concluded at the end June 2015.
